Coming from a family of the finest men's suit buttons makers, worn by \"Presidents, Popes, Kings, and Businessmen the world over\", Barret worked in his grandfather’s factory when he was younger, but soon realized he wanted to carve out his own path.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\r\nAfter graduating, Barrett returned to his hometown of Rochester, New York, to follow his passion – make whiskey and open a craft distillery, the first in Rochester since Prohibition times. Named Black Button because of a family inside joke – Barret is color blind and the family always joked that they’d need to produce only black buttons if we were to take over the family business – every small batch of Black Button spirits is made from local NY grains with over 90% of ingredients grown or produced in New York State. Everything from corn, wheat, rye, and barley to dairy cream and apple cider comes from family farms in New York State to support local and sustainable agriculture. They even grow their own juniper for Black Button gin at the Black Button Farm in South Bristol.
