It was then finished in the finest port casks from the Duoro Valley in Portugal for a total maturation period of 10 years. Bottled at 92 proof, this is a spectacular example of a sherry-finished single malt that brings a bright and fruity nose and a buttery palate with flavors of dried fruits, salted caramel, and a hint of oak. The finish is warm, smooth, and long.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\r\nComing from one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland, GlenDronach Distillery has been located in the Valley of Forgue in the east Highland hills for nearly 200 years since it was founded by James Allardice in 1826. Allardice was the second person to apply for a license to distill whisky in Scotland. Famed for making the single malts in the true Highland style – heavy and robust – GlenDronach single malts are perfect for maturation in sherry casks and they source the finest Spanish Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks from Andalucia. \u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\r\nToday, the distillery stands near Forgue in the Speyside region. After some changing-of-hands – the distillery was once owned by BenRiach, GlenDronach was acquired by Pernod Ricard in 2005. They converted the last of the Scottish coal-fired stills to indirect steam-heated coils. GlenDronach got its start shortly after the Excise Act of 1823, when James Allardice became the second person to apply for a license to distill Whisky in Scotland. Ever since, the iconic Scottish distillery has been under the ownership of several well known names in Scotch, namely; Walter Scott, Captain Charles Grant, and William Teacher and Sons. \u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nThe distillery is located near Forgue, by Huntly, Aberdeenshire, in the Speyside region, and is currently owned by BenRiach. GlenDronach survived many set-backs, including a fire in 1836 that nearly destroyed the entire facility. Their floor malting was also halted in 1996, and the distillery was mothballed.
