About Stronachie
Stronachie, which means ‘prominent nose’ in Gaelic, is one of those legendary names in the history of single malt Scotch whisky. Built by Alexander & MacDonald in the remote Ochil Mountains in Perthshire in 1890, Stronachie was a legendary Speyside distillery that sadly closed its doors in 1928. Decades later, A. D. Rattray got their hands on a bottle of the original 1904 Stronachie – 1 of only 4 left in the world. Taking a small sample, it was tasted and compared to other Highland malt whiskies. The spirit was recreated at the Benrinnes Distillery – another remote Speyside distillery below Ben Rinnes mountains.About Scotch
Scotch is the most popular whisky in the world and is considered the king of them all! There are five whisky regions in Scotland (six if you count the not officially recognized Islands), and each of them produces spirits with unique properties and distinct tasting notes. (The type of grain used determents the type of the scotch.)
Malt whisky is made of malted barley, and grain whisky uses other grains like corn or wheat. Most of the time, a whisky is blended from different distilleries hence the name blended scotch, but if a malt whisky is produced in a single distillery, we get something extraordinary called a single malt.
