About Sazerac 18 Year Old 2021 Antique Collection Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey

The Buffalo Trace Antique Collection is one of the most highly anticipated annual releases with good reason. The 2021 release of Sazerac 18 Year Old Rye marks a return to form for the annual expression. Distilled in 2003 from Minnesota rye, Kentucky corn, and North Dakota malted barley, the sour-batch whiskey spent 18 years and 6 months in new American white oak casks (no.4 char) sourced from Independent Stave in Lebanon, KY. It was finally bottled in 2021 at 90 proof, making for a mature and flavor-packed expression with notes of apple, herbs, anise, maple syrup, cocoa, coffee, and dates. The expression pays tribute to the Sazerac Coffee House that gained fame for creating the Sazerac cocktail.

About Sazerac Rye

Buffalo Trace's award-winning Sazerac brand is a tribute to the Sazerac Coffee House (at the time, the term "coffee house" was used to refer to a cocktail bar) and the role it played in replacing brandy with rye whiskey in the cocktail of the same name.

About Rye

As American as the bald eagle, rye whiskey was first brewed in the American Northeast in the 1600s. Even George Washington distilled it after leaving the Oval Office, so there’s no way of denying its origin.
It’s distinguished from bourbon for its original and unique spicy notes.

By law, rye whiskey must be made from at least 51% rye grain, aged in new and charred oak barrels for at least two years, and bottled at no more than 62,5% ABV.
