About Classic Malts Selection
A selection of Scotland’s finest single malt whiskies, The Classic Malts Coastal Collection introduces you to three 20 cl. bottles: Caol Ila 12YO, Talisker 10YO and Clynelish 14YO. This wonderful overview of coastal single malt expressions of Scotland begins in the tiny bay of Islay where Caol Ila is located, continues up north on the Isle of Skye with Talisker Distillery and the journey completes on the shores of Sutherland, far up north.Caol Ila (pronounced Cuul Eela, which is the Gaelic name for the Sound of Islay) Distillery is situated near Port Askaig on the isle of Islay. Founded in 1846 by Hector Henderson, Caol Ila fine and smoky whisky is among the lighter Islay whiskies with peaty, floral and peppery notes. Caol Ila 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the perfect reference for peaty malt whiskies with its smooth and sweetly fruity body.
Talisker Distillery was built in 1830 on the shore of Loch Harport in Carbost on the Isle of Skye. The spectacular terroir of Skye is the inspiration behind the Talisker range, producing premium single malt whiskies with a powerfully invigorating character, reflecting the rugged shores of the island. Talisker 10 Year Old is an extremely popular expression among connoisseurs and beginners alike, adored for its typical spicy and peaty character with a distinct ocean influence.
About Scotch
Scotch is the most popular whisky in the world and is considered the king of them all! There are five whisky regions in Scotland (six if you count the not officially recognized Islands), and each of them produces spirits with unique properties and distinct tasting notes. (The type of grain used determents the type of the scotch.)
Malt whisky is made of malted barley, and grain whisky uses other grains like corn or wheat. Most of the time, a whisky is blended from different distilleries hence the name blended scotch, but if a malt whisky is produced in a single distillery, we get something extraordinary called a single malt.
