Sasanokawa Shuzo Co. was founded in 1765 and is the only distiller in the northeast region of Japan. The sake brewery in Koriyama, Fukushi, is among the oldest in the country. They expanded the operation to whisky production in 1946. The oldest component in Yamazakura Blended Japanese Whisky was initially matured in barrels for 15 years, then moved to tanks, and barreled again to complete its 20 years of maturation.
